2023 BAFTA Film Awards given out Royal Festival Hall

The 76th British Academy Film Awards were awarded at Royal Festival Hall in London. The event was hosted by Richard E. Grant and Alison Hammond, and acknowledged the best British and foreign films of 2022.

The biggest winner of the night was All Quiet on the Western Front which won seven of the fourteen awards it had been nominated for, including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Direction and Best Film. The Irish black tragicomedy The Banshees of Inisherin won Outstanding British Film.

The film adaptation of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse won the award for Best British Short Animation. The epic science fiction film Avatar: The Way of Water, directed by James Cameron won the award for Best Special Visual Effects.

Other winners included Cate Blanchett who won Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in the psychological drama film Tár and Austin Butler who won Best Actor in a Leading Role for the biographical film Elvis. The French-British actress Emma Mackey won the EE Rising Star Award.

Costume designer Sandy Powell was awarded the special BAFTA Fellowship for her lifetime achievement of contributions to the arts.
